John Lennon Would Be Proud

Congratulations go to Morgan Taylor, winner of the Session One Grand Prize in the Children's Division of the 2008 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. The award-winning song, "Mint Green Bee," comes from the first of Taylor's revolutionary CD/DVDs for kids, the 2006 album Gustafer Yellowgold's Wide Wild World. That CD and 2007's Have You Never Been Yellow? feature Gustafer Yellowgold, a creature from the sun who comes to Earth and befriends a motley crew of interesting characters.

Taylor's iconographic animation and Beatlesque tunes make both collections unique gems in the world of kids' music, and the fact that one of Taylor's songs won such a prestigious award shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who's given Gustafer a listen. Heck, a second tune, Have You Never Been Mellow?'s "The Bluebird Tree" made the Session One Finalists Cut this year, as well.

If you and your kids love the Fab Four, Morgan Taylor's Gustafer Yellowgold albums will be right down your alley. In fact, if John, Paul, George, and Ringo could make a kids' CD today, I'm pretty sure the results would sound akin to "Mint Green Bee" and the rest of Taylor's tunes.
