Shout! Factory to Release Four Classic Kids' CDs

Friday November 14, 2008

Retro pop culture label Shout! Factory will issue for the first time on CD four classic children's albums on December 2. Titles include Carly & Lucy Simon Sing Songs For Children; The Sorcerer's Apprentice; Danny Kaye: Grimm's & Hans Christian Andersen's Fairy Tales; and Burl Ives: Favorites For Children.

Carly Simon and her sister Lucy originally released their album as The Simon Sisters Sing The Lobster Quadrille And Other Songs For Children (wow!) back in 1969 on the Columbia label, featuring nursery rhymes and poems set to Lucy Simon's original music. The Sorcerer's Apprentice, composed by Paul Dukas, performed by The New York Philharmonic, conducted by Leonard Bernstein, and narrated by Marshall Izen, was originally released on the Columbia label in 1969. The album also includes a scaled down version of the story directed by Jim Timmens.

Danny Kaye recorded two albums of stories for the Golden label in the early 1960s, Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales and Grimm’s Fairy Tales, both of which are included on this rerelease. And Burl Ives originally released Burl Ives: 4 Folk Songs and 4 Stories on Columbia Records and Children’s Records of America in 1969, featuring Ives singing and narrating songs and stories written by Barbara Hazen.
