ECMA Announces 2009 Music Award Nominations for Kids' Music
The East Coast Music Association, a regional collaboration of people in the music industry of Atlantic Canada, announced its nominees for their 2009 music awards, including Children's Recording of the Year.
Among the nominated albums were Donna & Andy's Blue Skies and Pirates; Eleanor McCain's Bundle of Joy; Maria Alley's Nature's Lullaby; Rik Barron's Shine (my personal favorite of the bunch); and Scotty and the Stars' Here We Go!

Is there a definitive list somewhere of children’s music awards, and some way to determine the good from the bad? There’s a new bunch every month, and as someone who would like to submit to them, it’s hard to tell the worthwhile from the not, not to mention how to find out about them in advance so we can submit. Some want money, some don’t; some have a central submission process, others involve finding and getting product into the hands of every judge. It’s somewhat overwhelming for an independent artist. Any thoughts anyone?
Simon, I’ve compiled a short list of Kids’ Music Awards, with links to each organization’s site. You can browse the list here: http://kidsmusic.about.com/od/awards/Childrens_Music_Awards.htm
I would definitely steer clear of any group or person who charges a fee to judge your music. And try to get your music into the hands of as many parents, librarians, teachers, and kids as possible. They’re the true judges of children’s music, after all.
THanks Warren. Interesting that you include Parents’ Choice, which appears to be one of the most credible ones, but charges over $200 per CD to enter. I’m fine paying for it if it’s as credible as it appears, and I understand that it at least whittles out some less professional submissions perhaps. Good feedback, thanks.
