New Kids' Music Releases: Captain Bogg & Salty and Gustafer Yellowgold

Wednesday March 18, 2009

March has seen some great new releases from kids' bands, including Captain Bogg & Salty's Emphatical Piratical, and Morgan Taylor's Gustafer Yellowgold's Mellow Fever.

Captain Bogg & Salty, the Portland, Oregon-based buccaneer rock band, have recorded three albums of seafaring tunes for kids, beginning with Bedtime Stories for Pirates (1999), and continuing with Pegleg Tango (2005) and Prelude to a Mutiny (2006). The band's sound develops and grows on their latest CD, Emphatical Piratical (release date March 3, 2009), which features songs about the awesomeness of a pirate's life, the fictional Frogg Island, and the dangers of smiling at a crocodile.

Morgan Taylor, a Brooklyn-based animator and musician, created the character of Gustafer Yellowgold several years ago, and has produced three DVD/CD packages to tell his story. The first was The Wide Wild World of Gustafer Yellowgold (2006), followed by Gustafer Yellowgold's Have You Never Been Yellow? (2007). Gustafer Yellowgold's Mellow Fever (release date March 17, 2009) digs even deeper into Gustafer's back story and explores more closely the personalities of his friends and family.

Here's the thing about these two artists: they both put on can.not.miss live performances, so if they're playing anywhere nearby, get your tickets now and take the whole family. Captain Bogg & Salty will be playing NYC's Symphony Space on March 28, and Morgan Taylor will bring the Gustafer show to the same theater on April 25 and 26.
