Ryan Marshall had an idea: create a kids' music CD from the ground up and make it top the charts. Done.
In a nutshell, photographer, blogger, and dad Ryan Marshall used his indie rock connections, his record label experience, and his passion for getting the word out through his blog Pacing the Panic Room about his step-son's daily battle with Smith-Magenis Syndrome to create the family music CD Do Fun Stuff. The collection was released on iTunes August 30, and, because of all his pre-release blog-o-sphere footwork, Do Fun Stuff hit #1 in the iTunes' Children's Music genre on the very same day.
If you're more interested in the music than the backstory, Do Fun Stuff is full of tunes that'll bring to mind Yo Gabba Gabba!, Barry Louis Polisar, and your friendly neighborhood indie band. As you can see, this is Volume 1 in what Marshall has already said will become a yearly release, so look for Volume 2 of Do Fun Stuff in the near future. All proceeds from the sales of Do Fun Stuff will be donated to PRISMS (Parents and Researchers Interested In Smith-Magenis Syndrome) for the further research of Smith-Magenis Syndrome.
